About THe artist

SALT + GRIT is me, Casey Sawma, a one-woman show that began with my love of craftsmanship and ANTIQUE tools.

SALT represents the Sea, the movement of minerals that inspire my creations and the simple beauties of the world that fulfill my innate artistic ability. 

GRIT expresses the passion in my heart. It is the rawness that drives me to produce well-made and soulful pieces.

My mother, my sweet mother, is to thank for my inspiration of nature. Whether I was bundled up in the winter's nights to gaze at the moon, or listen to the chickadees sing for seed, or pointing at the passing geese, it is my mother who is always guiding me to natures wonders.

The profound loss of my father, my soul mate, led me into a dark, raw and painful sadness. I watched him fade away into the colors of autumn and was whisked away by the gusty whirly winds up into the flawless blue sky, filled with birds sailing on the thermals. A part of my soul drifted into the sky that day and will always be sailing on the thermals with him. A man of strength, wisdom, and passion, the SALT of the earth.
Connected At The Center Forever.

From the deepest darkness came a glimmer of light, strength and wisdom as I picked up my fathers tools and began creating. And this is how SALT and GRIT was created, out of soul, passion and craftsmanship.

It is my hope that my jewelry conveys my love of nature's beauty, my passion, and appreciation for old world craftsmanship, and above all else speaks to your soul and encourages strength within you.
